Come on in.
Well, here we are. The news is out, the agency is open.
Welcome.
There’s a lot to potentially say in an introduction post. But I’ll try to keep it short and sweet.
I’ve always been driven to make publishing and the mysterious business side of it a little more accessible. My friends in Philadelphia will likely remember the ask-me-anything events I hosted with my buddies at Indy Hall (which will make a come back very soon), or the joy-filled industry events during the Philadelphia Bookstore Crawl that I organize. Maybe you’re a member of the 800+ person Discord I launched for regional writers with my pal, journalist and author Swapna Krishna.
I find a lot of joy in making things less confusing for folks navigating the industry for the first time, and the goal is for Neighborhood Literary to do just that, and be a good neighbor to our writing communities.
Good neighbors, make good books.
The plan? Frequent in-person and virtual events that are free and accessible to our local writing communities and beyond. As often as we can. The era of flourishing writing communities on social media might not be over, but it certainly isn’t as fun as it used to be. We need communities more than ever. The goal here is to try our best to bring that vibe back, in the neighborhoods of our respective agents, in-real-life.
Right now, we’ve got an in-person event lined up for Tuesday, March 25th at Head and the Hand in Fishtown (thank you Claire and Linda!). Come April, you can meetup with us at A Novel Idea for a book proposal workshop with my dear friend Jennifer Herrera (David Black Agency). Events are listed right here. We also have a bundle of virtual events coming up in the Discord.
The link to the Discord isn’t public, so if you’re a writer in the region and want to be let in, say hello.
We’re also looking to build the agency. If you head over to opportunities, we would love to find an intern (or two!) for Fall 2025. And no, you don’t have to be a college student to be an intern. I recognize how hard it can be to break into publishing when you’re considering a pivot, and I encourage mid-career folks to apply.
Please go ahead and follow us on social media (we’ll be over on Instagram and Threads) and subscribe to our newsletter, as we build and grow. Meet our agents and clients. Connect with us.
And thank you.
